C.A.P.S Cavan Autism Parents Support Group
Cavan Autism Parents Support Group is the first of it’s kind in Cavan, which has been solely set up to support the parents, carers and children/young adults with autism in Cavan. It is organised and run by parents, carers and young volunteer workers.
We currently have 73 families & 78 children/young adults on our books.
CAPS is the brainchild of Bernie Nelson who’s son is autistic. She has conducted numerous fundraisers over the past number of years. One of the main annual fundraisers is the Women’s Mini Marathon in Dublin in June.
C.A.P.S now run a variation of camps and activities throughout the year. Some of these include:
Junior Easter Camps for children aged 4 – 9 years
Senior Easter Camps for children aged 10 yesrs+
Wednesday Day Trips for all the children/young adults on our books.
These camps may include visits to Tatyo Park, The Zoo, Causey Farm, Octopus Kidz, Crystal Maze, LesiurePlex, W5, Killinkere pet farm (where we make the yummy scones) and much more… On all of these trips each of the participitants are accompanied by their own carer/volunteer.
To finish off the Summer holidays and to prepare everyone for heading back to school/college we host a week long End of Summer Camp the last week in August.
All our work is done on a fundraising basis with no government funding, so this means that it is not always possible to cater for everyone’s individuals needs. We certainly would not be able to provide any of this without our ongoing support we get from our fundraising events throughout the year and our volunteers.
C.A.P.S not only provide events for children/young adults with autism but also for the parents and siblings. Check these out on our Events page – Click Here
